Bahamas Fishing Photo Gallery

I have chosen these pictures to include in the Bahamas fishing photo gallery to show the many different species that are available to anglers throughout the islands.

This first picture is from an expedition many years ago when the groupers were still plentiful and I was still young enough to get down 30 feet where the big groupers dwell.

The very first fish I ever caught on a fly rod was a bonefish! That is a very bold statement as any angler worth his salt will tell you.

I learned from some guides from Montana who rented my house in Little Harbour Abaco. I had caught these elusive gray ghosts on a spinning rod but had never used a fly rod until Ifinally bought a 9 weight rod and reel about 20 years ago.

I started showing my guests from Montana staying at my house "Casa Mar" where to look for bones and they started giving me casting lessons as we spent endless hours walking around in one foot of water searching for the elusive bonefish.

Here are a few pictures of bones and the beautiful places you have to travel to find them.

This picture is me hooked up to a bonefish.

I had just caught and picked up this bone for a picture when he started swimming for the sky and this picture was the result.

This is my good friend Kerry with a nice bone that he had just caught on spinning gear. Believe it or not he caught 5 bonefish on five casts in a row!

This picture is of a blue marlin along side the boat and later at the dock in Little Harbour Abaco. We smoked the meat from this marlin at Pete's Pub in Little Harbour Abaco. It was excellent!

My friend Charlie caught this little pompano surf casting on the beach at Bahama Palm Shores on the island of Abaco. What a beautiful fish! We tossed him back into the ocean to swim again.

My friend from Norway Vidar Tosse caught this turbot on a fly near Snake Cay on the island of Abaco. These fish are very hard to catch with a fly.

My friend Rollie makes a mighty surf cast on Bookies Beach near my house in Little Harbour Abaco.

I caught this 8 foot long Lemon Shark in the middle of the night from my sailboat in Little Harbour Abaco.

I was walking the flats with a group of Norwegians when Svein caught a small turbot at a place we call jungle river in the Bight of Old Robinson near my house in Little Harbour. What a beautiful place to fish!

My daughter Amanda caught this trigger fish when she was only 4 years old bottom fishing with me near our house.

On the beach quite a few years ago with a nice lobster and a permit that I had just speared. I didn't know what kind of fish it was when I speared it, but I knew it looked good to eat, and it was good to eat!

My friend Larry Kelley holding a couple conchs that I had just dove up in about 20 feet of water. Conch is one of the staple foods of the Bahamas.
