Bonefish

Bonefish are one of the hardest of all game fish in the world to find, hook and catch. The Bahamas offers some of the best shallow flats fishing on the planet.

The first time I caught a bone I was spin fishing for snappers and other small fish for the dinner table and I wasn't sure just what kind of fish I had caught. I asked my good friend Pete Johnston what kind of fish it was and he identified the fish for me.

Once you have finally arrived in the middle of nowhere far from civilization surrounded by acres of pristine shallow water, you are ready to begin the hunt for the elusive silver ghost.

Here I am hook up to a nice bone in the "Bight of Old Robinson" near my house in Little Harbour Abaco, Bahamas.

The hunt for these illusive fish can be long and sometimes frustrating. You must be very patient, methodical and have some good flies in your box.

The secret weapon, the Stink Box. Catch a small crab and mash him up in a small box with a few of your favorite flies to add some fishy "stink" to your flies. This may or may not work, but it adds some psychological ammo to your mindset after being skunked for a couple days.

Here are some photos of my fishing buddies with fish in hand! The first two are again of my Viking Brother Vidar, a great fly fisherman!

Believe it or not my good friend and neighbor Cary from Little Harbour caught 5 bonefish on five casts all in a row!

This is one of my best friends and famous fly fishing guide from Helena Montana Dave Ames, better known as Amos. Dave is the author of several books on fly fishing.

Here is Dennis Ring from San Francisco with his very first catch. I really enjoy watching someone catch their very first bonefish. They usually panic and lose the first as they have never felt a fish so power-full on a fly rod.
